Phil Mickelson confident ahead of US Open test at Oakmont

Six-time runner-up Phil Mickelson says that he is confident of ending his US Open hoodoo at Oakmont this week.

Phil Mickelson has said that he sees this week's US Open as a "great opportunity" to complete the career Grand Slam.

Many of the players competing at Oakmont have spoken of the challenges that they will encounter in Pennsylvania, but Mickelson - who has finished runner-up in the tournament on six occasions - has claimed that his style of golf will suit the course.

The 46-year-old is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "I'm excited I'm at one of my great opportunities. I view this week as a great opportunity to complete something that would be historic in my mind.

"This is a whole different style of golf, something that over the years I've become very effective at playing.

"I feel like I've learned how to play that style of golf, and this golf course, specifically."

Mickelson currently has five Major crowns to his name, with his last triumph coming at the 2013 Open Championship.
