Dustin Johnson rues putting mistakes at US Open

Dustin Johnson concedes that his putting game cost him his first major title at the US Open as his errors on the 18th at Chambers Bay handed the crown to Jordan Spieth.

Dustin Johnson has rued his poor performance with the putter on his final round as he narrowly missed out on the US Open title.

The 30-year-old had the chance to win the first major of his career on the 18th hole at Chambers Bay with an eagle putt, only to miss wide to the left.

However, Johnson could still have sent the competition into a playoff against Jordan Spieth with his four-foot birdie attempt, but he missed again, allowing the 21-year-old to secure his second major of the year.

Johnson told reporters: "I did everything I was supposed to do. I hit the ball really well. I'm proud of the way I handled myself and the way I played today. I just really struggled getting it in the hole today.

"I didn't think I was hitting bad putts. I thought I was hitting them pretty good they just weren't going in."

Despite the disappointment, Johnson has moved up to third place in the world rankings.
