Tiger Woods struggles on return at Waste Management Phoenix Open

Tiger Woods hits a two-over-par 73 on his return to action at the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

Tiger Woods made a disappointing return to competitive golf as he shot a two-over-par 73 in the opening round of the Waste Management Phoenix Open.

The former world number one was playing his first tournament of the year and just his second since August, and the early signs were not good as he went through the first four holes four shots over par.

Despite reaching five-over at one stage, a rally on the back nine allowed Woods to climb up the leaderboard with an eagle and a birdie, but he remains tied for 105th.

There were no such problems for Ryan Palmer, who record an impressive 64 at TPC Scottsdale to take the lead on seven-under-par.

Major winners Keegan Bradley and Bubba Watson trail the leader by just one stroke, while Daniel Berger was also on six-under when he was forced off the course before teeing off at the 17th late in the day.
