Graeme McDowell takes first-round lead at World Golf Championship

Graeme McDowell leads the opening round of the World Golf Championship in Shanghai with a card of five-under 67, which puts him two points ahead of the chasing pack.

Graeme McDowell has carded an opening five-under 67 to set the clubhouse target in the first round of the World Golf Championship in Shanghai.

Things could have been even better for the 35-year-old, though, after poor finishing saw him drop two shots in the last six holes to keep the chasing pack in touch.

McDowell holds a two-point lead over the other early contenders, including Ryder Cup opponent Rickie Fowler and Chris Kirk, on a field which features 40 of the world's top 50 players.

Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter returned to the clubhouse on two-under, while fellow Englishman Tommy Fleetwood struck five birdies to end the first session on three-under-par.
