Jerry Kelly propels himself into contention with round of 65

Jerry Kelly shoots a second-round 65 to finish day two of the Players Championship on eight-under-par, level with compatriot Kevin Na.

Jerry Kelly has carded a second-round 65 to earn a share of the lead with Kevin Na heading into the weekend at the Players Championship.

Kelly holed no fewer than eight birdies throughout a glittering session for what proved a six-stroke improvement on his opening-round 71.

He is level with Na, who got off to a disappointing start by bogeying the first and fourth holes, either side of two birdies.

However, three more birdies on the back nine, with another bogey on the 14th, saw the American finish the round on three-under-par - eight-under for the tournament.

Rickie Fowler carded back-to-back 69s to finish the day on six-under, along with Chris Kirk, David Hearn and Branden Grace.

Meanwhile, British hopefuls Rory McIlroy and Ian Poulter are two of 14 players four shots off the pace on four-under, with McIlroy shooting 71 after his opening-round 69, while it was the opposite for Poulter.
