Martin Kaymer seizes control in Abu Dhabi

Martin Kaymer looks on course to win the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship after opening up a six-shot lead by the end of the third round.

Martin Kaymer has opened up a six-shot advantage after round three of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship.

The German started the day with a one-shot lead over Thomas Pieters but a seven-under-par round of 65 ensured that he stretched clear of the Belgian.

Alexander Levy and Bernd Wiesberger have moved into a tie for third position after capitalising on a disappointing day for Rory McIlroy.

The world number one sits in fifth but his failure to add more than two birdies meant that he ended Saturday as many as eight shots behind Kaymer.

Impressive rounds from Charl Schwartzel, Jamie Donaldson and Victor Dubuisson have resulted in the trio closing the gap on the leading players, but only a catastrophic collapse from Kaymer will prevent him securing victory on the final day.
