Luke Donald believes that competing regularly in America will give the European players more support from the US fans in the Ryder Cup this week.

Former world number one Luke Donald believes that the Europe team will get plenty of cheers from the US crowd during the Ryder Cup this weekend.

The tournament, which will be held for the 39th time this week, will get underway at the Medinah Country Club in Chicago, where the majority of spectators are expected to be in favour of the home side.

"A lot of people are aware I went to college near here and if I can garner some support from US fans it will benefit our team," BBC Sport quotes Donald as saying.

"It has changed in the last few years because our faces are much more recognisable than they used to be and we're getting a lot of support out there."

Europe will be defending their title following their victory in 2010 at Celtic Manor in Wales.
