Darren Clarke denies that he has been offered the chance to captain Europe in the 2014 Ryder Cup.

Darren Clarke has admitted that it would be a "huge honour" to be offered the opportunity to captain Europe at the next Ryder Cup.

The 44-year-old was one of Jose Maria Olazabal's vice-captains as Europe retained the Ryder Cup in Chicago less than two weeks ago, but Clarke has denied that he has been offered a chance to take the leading role in two years' time at Gleneagles.

Clarke posted on his Twitter account: "To clarify, I have not been offered the Ryder Cup captaincy.

"It's not decided by the committee until January, but it would be a huge honour if asked."

Clarke has already received the backing of Ryder Cup stalwart Lee Westwood.
