World number one Rory McIlroy suffers his second successive defeat in the World Golf final.

World number one Rory McIlroy has slumped to his second successive defeat in the World Golf Final as he lost to South Africa's Charl Schwartzel.

The defeat has left the Irishman's hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals as remote, after Tiger Woods defeated Matt Kuchar.

McIlroy had opened up a four-shot lead against the 2011 Masters champion, but he promptly lost that advantage in as many holes as Schwartzel went on to edge the match by one shot.

Like McIlroy, Woods had suffered an opening day defeat, but he hit back to comfortably see off Kuchar by five shots.

Woods will now face McIlroy in their final match of Group A.
