Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose crash out of WGC World Match Play in round two

Britons Rory McIlroy and Justin Rose fail to make it through the second round of the WGC World Match Play in Arizona.

Great Britain's Rory McIlroy has been knocked out of the WGC World Match Play in the second round, losing out at the 19th hole to American Harris English.

Winning three holes on the spin saw the world number seven lead his opponent by one, but a six at the first extra hole saw him crash to a defeat.

Fellow Briton Justin Rose also bowed out of the tournament, at the hands of veteran Ernie Els, who triumphed over the US Open champion at the 20th hole.

World number three Henrik Stenson, the top-ranked golfer on the field, was knocked out by Louis Oosthuizen, losing by 4&3 to the 2010 US Open winner.

Northern Irishman Graeme McDowell was trailing by two to Hideki Matsuyama at the 14th, but produced two successive birdies followed by a par on the final hole to stage a late comeback and book his place in the next round.
