Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano wins BMW Masters by one shot

Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano wins for the first time since the Italian Open last year by claiming a one-shot victory from Francesco Molinari at the BMW Masters in Shanghai.

Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano survived a double bogey at the last to claim victory at the BMW Masters in Shanghai by one shot and collect his eighth professional title.

The Spaniard played the course in 68 on Sunday to finish the competition on 11 under par, one shot ahead of Francesco Molinari and Thongchai Jaidee, who surged into contention with low-scoring final rounds.

Molinari had come from six shots back to join Fernandez-Castano at the top of the leaderboard, before the the eventual winner took a comfortably lead with birdies at the 13th, 15th and 17th holes.

It proved to be a nervy finish, though, as he could only make a six at the par-four 18th after finding sand off the tee, but it proved not to be costly as neither Molinari or Jaidee could catch him and force a playoff.

Overnight leader Luke Guthrie finished two shots behind on nine under after a closing 71, while defending champion Peter Hanson ended the tournament on seven under after an excellent final-round 63.
