Tiger Woods says that he has plenty of time to match Jack Nicklaus's record haul of 18 major championships.

Tiger Woods has said that it will take a long time for his to match Jack Nicklaus's record haul of 18 major championships.

The American will tee off in the final major of the year, the US PGA Championship, on Thursday, where he is looking to build on his third-placed finish at The Open.

Woods, who has enjoyed a resurgence in form with three wins this year, has been stuck on 14 since lifting the 2008 US Open at Torrey Pines.

However, the 36-year-old believes that he still has plenty of time to match or better Nicklaus's feat.

"I figure it's going to take a career - a long time," said Woods. "Jack didn't finish his until he was 46, so if you go by that timetable I've got 10 more years.

"Four more majors is a lot, but I've got plenty of time."

Woods said that he is desperate to land his 15th major at Kiawah Island, South Carolina, this week.

"I'm pleased at the way I was able to play at certain times [in this year's majors] and obviously disappointed that I did not win," he added.

"I've played in three major championships this year and I didn't win any of them. That's the goal.

"I was there at the US Open after two days and I was right there with a chance at the British Open. Things have progressed, but not winning a major championship doesn't feel very good."

Woods is a four-time winner of the US PGA Championship.
