Rickie Fowler: 'Patience is key at US PGA Championship'

Rickie Fowler says that patience is vital as he prepares for the US PGA Championship at Whistling Straits.

Rickie Fowler has claimed that patience is vital when competing in a Major tournament as the American prepares for this week's US PGA Championship at Whistling Straits.

The 26-year-old, who is yet to win a Major, hopes to complete an American clean sweep for the first time since 1982.

World number two Jordan Spieth clinched The Masters and US Open, while his compatriot Zach Johnson claimed The Open at St Andrews last month.

"[I'm going to] go out there and just focus on sticking to my game plan and taking care of the business that I need to take care of out there, and ultimately putting myself in a position going into the weekend to be in contention," Fowler told PA.

"So I don't look at them as any harder to win, you just really have to be patient and not push any harder than needed."

Meanwhile, reigning champion Rory McIlroy has declared himself fit for the tournament after recovering from an ankle injury.
