Ian Poulter withdraws from AT&T Byron Nelson tournament

Englishman Ian Poulter pulls out of the AT&T Byron Nelson tournament in Texas after injuring himself at the gym.

Ian Poulter has pulled out of this week's AT&T Byron Nelson tournament on the PGA Tour after injuring himself in the gym.

The English golfer "picked up a slight strain" on Monday after finishing joint-third at the Crowne Plaza Invitational on Sunday.

Poulter confirmed that he would not be teeing up until next month's US Open at Chambers Bay in the far North-West of the States.

"I will not be competing this week in Texas, I picked up a slight strain in the Gym on Monday, so taking precautions and not chancing it," Poulter wrote on Twitter.

"I was looking forward to 2 weeks in a row, playing good golf, so disappointing not to keep that going. Next event will be @usopengolf."

Poulter's performance in Dallas on Sunday was his first top-five PGA Tour finish in five months.
