Phil Mickelson has admitted that he is pleased to end his trophy drought following Sunday's win at the Phoenix Open.

Despite a late charge from fellow American Brandt Snedeker, the 42-year-old was able to hold on for a four-shot victory.

The triumph was Mickelson's first on the PGA Tour in nearly a year.

"It's an important one for me because it's been a while since I won, been a while since I've been in contention," he said.

"I played really good golf and I had to fight really hard to fight off a charging Brandt Snedeker, who played great.

"It's a hard thing to do, to win on the PGA Tour, and I'm very appreciative and fortunate."

The title is the 54th of Mickelson's professional career.
