Rory McIlroy hopeful of hitting top form ahead of Scottish Open

Rory McIlroy believes that he is close to being at his best ahead of the Scottish Open this week.

Rory McIlroy has claimed that he is edging closer to finding the form which will allow him to challenge in the closing stages of tournaments.

The Northern Irishman's only win of the year came in the BMW PGA Championship in May, but he believes that he is close to pushing the errors out of his game as he prepares to play at the Scottish Open in Aberdeen on Thursday.

"Just limiting the mistakes would be good," McIlroy told Sky Sports News. "The win at Wentworth was probably the only week for some time that I didn't have a bad stretch of holes.

"If I can keep the bad runs of holes off my card, that's all I need to do because the good golf is there. I'm playing good quality stuff."

McIlroy will switch his focus to The Open at Royal Liverpool next week after he has finished competing in Aberdeen.
