Rory McIlroy congratulates Tiger Woods for snatching back the world number one spot following his win in Orlando.

Rory McIlroy has sent his congratulations to Tiger Woods for snatching the world number one spot from the Northern Irishman.

The 23-year-old dropped down to second best following the American's victory in the Arnold Palmer Invitational on Monday.

"I texted Tiger to congratulate him on his win and say, 'Well done'," McIlroy said in a press conference.

The former US Open champion, who will compete in the Shell Houston Open this week, received some support from Woods ahead of his last tournament before the Masters in Augusta.

"Tiger got back to me and told me to get my finger out of my arse and win this week."

McIlroy has only broken 70 once in nine strokeplay rounds this year.
