Luke Donald says that he is under less pressure ahead of the Masters as he is no longer world number one.

Luke Donald has insisted that he feels under less pressure heading into next month's Masters due to his world number three ranking.

The 35-year-old has relinquished the top spot to Rory McIlroy, who came under criticism for recently abandoning the Honda Classic midway through the second round with toothache.

While the Englishman has insisted that he wants to regain the world number one spot, he is glad to be out of the spotlight.

"Naturally the whole point in being the best is to be number one, best player on the planet, and that is where I want to be too," BBC Sport quotes Donald as saying.

"But having said that, I have to agree that there is a little less pressure in being the number three going into the Masters."

The elite tournament gets underway on April 11.
