Martin Laird cards a score of 63 to hold off Rory McIlroy's late charge to win the Texas Open in San Antonio.

Scotsman Martin Laird has pipped Rory McIlroy in a tense finale to win his third PGA Tour title at the Texas Open in San Antonio.

McIlroy was well in contention ahead of the final round, trailing overnight leader Billy Horschel by four shots.

The world number two birdied at the third to boost his chances, but was blown away a superb final round from Laird.

Five birdies on the front night saw Laird take control, before a 17-foot put on the 16th effectively sealed the title.

Laird carded a final round of 63 to prevail as McIlroy was forced to settle for second place ahead of the Masters, which begins at Augusta on Thursday.
