Justin Rose has set his sights on a spot in Jose Maria Olazabal's European Ryder Cup team.

The Englishman also hopes to emulate his success of 2007 by topping the Order of Merit.

Victory in the WGC Cadillac Championship lifted Rose to seventh in the Official World Golf Rankings, one place outside his career best.

The 31-year-old's one-stroke victory over Bubba Watson at Doral means that he trails only Rory McIlroy in the Ryder Cup World Points list.

"I'm a player who balances trying to play both tours, and winning a tournament like this actually is the perfect way to compete on both tours, because it's such a great crossover now," said Rose.

"I have the chance to compete and have a run at The Race to Dubai now and obviously it gets you really going well in the FedExCup. So it's an exciting win."

Rose, who is now second in the Race to Dubai, last played in the Ryder Cup in Valhalla in 2008, when a Nick Faldo-led Europe were defeated.
