Dustin Johnson: 'Davis Love III blameless for US Ryder Cup loss'

Dustin Johnson believes that Davis Love III was a great American captain and insists that he was not to blame for their dramatic Ryder Cup loss.

Dustin Johnson has insisted that captain Davis Love III was in no way to blame for the United States' Ryder Cup defeat at Medinah.

Jose Maria Olazabal's European team produced a historic comeback to win the trophy after trailing 10-6 heading into Sunday's singles matches.

Some sections of the US media have criticised Love for his final-day tactics, but Johnson, who was one of just three Americans to win their singles rubber, believes that fine European play rather than captaincy decisions was the main factor behind the remarkable turnaround.

Johnson told Sky Sports News. "It definitely sucks to lose, but we had a great week, it was great for TV and what a match is was. The Europeans just outplayed us on Sunday.

"All the veterans and captain, they sat down and they made the order. We had a 10-6 lead going into Sunday and I think everything we did I felt was right.

"Captain Love did a great job, it was a lot of fun playing for him and I just hope that I'm in the team in two years at Gleneagles."

Europe's comeback equals that of America's during their 1999 victory at Brookline, where Love was a member of the winning side.
