Tiger Woods says that he is "not young anymore" while explaining Davis Love III's decision to leave him out of a Ryder Cup session for the first time in his career.

Tiger Woods has said that he understands why Davis Love III dropped him for yesterday morning's Ryder Cup foursomes at Medinah.

It was the first time the world number two has sat out of a Ryder Cup session, having lost his opening two matches playing with usual partner Steve Stricker.

Woods, whose only triumph at the Ryder Cup came at 1999 in the famous 'Battle of Brookline', said that it was "nice" to get some rest ahead of his afternoon fourballs match against Luke Donald and Sergio Garcia.

"This is a long grind to go all five," said Woods. "I've done it before and it's hard. I felt great this morning and it was nice to kind of sleep in and get a little bit of rest.

"I watched the guys on TV and tried to get out here and watch them a little bit [but] captain says: 'Hey, it's cold out here, stay inside, stay warm and be ready for your match'.

"I put so much effort into that last match yesterday afternoon and I was pretty spent. This is way different than Presidents Cup when you have it over four days. Five matches in three days is a lot, and hey, I'm not young anymore. I'm one of the older guys."

Woods and Stricker lost a tense match against Donald and Garcia.
