Ernie Els: 'Rory McIlroy can win at least four Masters titles'

Ernie Els believes that current world number one Rory McIlroy can don the green jacket at least four times in his career.

Ernie Els believes that Rory McIlroy can win at least four Masters titles as the current world number one chases his first victory at Augusta next week.

McIlroy, 25, is yet to don the green jacket, but will be hoping to complete a career grand slam when play gets underway on April 9.

Two-time Open Championship and US Open champion Els failed in his bid to win at Augusta despite finishing runner-up twice, but the South African does not think McIlroy will suffer the same fate.

Els told BBC Sport: "Rory is too good. He's playing against great players but Rory has that factor where when he's on, these other guys can't play with him.

"There are no guarantees in this game but I'd say he would win at least four. But he's got to do this first one and then the other ones will be easier. This one is going to be quite big."

McIlroy famously collapsed at the 2011 Masters, but went on to win the US Open (2011), PGA Championship (2012, 2014) and The Open at Hoylake last year.
