Dustin Johnson has claimed that he is confident of challenging at The Open this week as he continues his bid to win a first Major tournament.
The American suffered another disappointing finish to a Major last month when he took three putts to gift the US Open to Jordan Spieth, but he believes that his form in the event was further proof that he is good enough to triumph ahead of his St Andrews bid.
"I think I showed that at the US Open. Coming down the back nine, I was hitting the shots that I wanted to hit. Unfortunately, the ball wasn't bouncing in the hole," Johnson told reporters.
"I think every situation you can learn from, it just depends on the way you want to look at it. I try to look at them all as learning opportunities. Each one helps me get closer to actually getting a Major."
Johnson's best finish at The Open came when he tied for second place behind Darren Clarke at Royal St George's in 2011.
