Luke Donald is sure he is "good enough" to win his first major.

World number one Luke Donald has said that he is "good enough" to win a golfing major despite never having won a top prize in the sport.

Donald ended tied for fifth at The Open and the 34-year-old believes that his form this week shows he is not far off his first major.

"I'll leave this week knowing that my game is definitely good enough to win majors," ESPN quotes Donald as saying. "It's a big step forward for me from a few weeks back, at the US Open.

"I think it would be fantastic to win one here. Even being somewhat in contention, having the crowd really behind me, was a special feeling."

Donald's best career result in a major is a tie for second at the 2005 Masters.
