Jean-Eric Vergne celebrates his best-ever Formula 1 finish at the Canadian Grand Prix.

Toro Rosso racer Jean-Eric Vergne has expressed his happiness at obtaining his highest-ever finish after coming sixth at the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal.

The Frenchman's finish was his side's best since 2008 when Sebastian Vettel helped them to sixth in the constructors' championship.

Vergne, who qualified at seven on the grid, was delighted with his accolade.

"I'm very happy. The best result for me of course, but also the highest finishing position since Vettel's results for the team in 2008," Vergne told BBC Sport.

"It's a great result for the team as we are making progress race by race and it's very encouraging for the rest of the season."

Vergne finished ahead of Felipe Massa, Raikkonen and Jenson Button.
