Adrian Sutil is appealing the 18-month suspended sentence he was handed after being found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm to Eric Lux of Lotus.
The incident occurred at a nightclub in Shanghai last year, where Sutil is said to have smashed a champagne glass over Lux's head.
"We have decided on this step because we are convinced this judge must not oppose, especially the video tapes which from our point of view are quite obvious and have not been properly considered," Sutil's manager Manfred Zimmermann told Bild.
"Not asking one of the witnesses to court and other important circumstances have not been considered as well."
The German was also fined €200,000 (£167,500) as part of his punishment.
