Fernando Alonso quickest in first practice

Ferrari's Fernando Alonso is fastest in the opening practice session ahead of this weekend's Singapore Grand Prix.

Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has recorded the fastest time in the first practice session ahead of Sunday's Singapore Grand Prix.

The Spaniard, who has endured a frustrating 2014 campaign, edged out the Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.

Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo were fourth and fifth respectively in the Red Bull, while Toro Rosso's Jean-Eric Vergne was a surprise sixth.

Alonso's teammate Kimi Raikkonen was seventh-fastest, with McLaren driver Jenson Button close behind in eighth position.
