Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton admits that he feels "ecstatic" to qualify in pole position for the Chinese Grand Prix.

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton described earning pole position for the Chinese Grand Prix as an "incredible feeling".

Hamilton saw off the challenge of Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso to start in first place, and the former McLaren star couldn't hide his delight at earning his first pole position for his new team.

The 28-year-old told reporters: "It's an incredible feeling. I'm so happy to have our first pole for some time. I'm just ecstatic really.

"The lap was great. The team has performed well all weekend so far so I hope we can carry it into tomorrow."

The British driver has won 25 points from his opening two races for Mercedes.
