Malaysian GP officials in extension talks

The chairman of the Sepang International Circuit confirms that they are in talks to extend the staging of the Malaysian Grand Prix beyond this season.

The chairman of the Sepang International Circuit has revealed that they are in discussions to keep the Malaysian Grand Prix on the Formula 1 calendar beyond 2015.

Sepang's current deal to stage the race expires after this year's event, which takes place at the end of March.

However, Manathir Mokhzani has confirmed that talks are continuing over a new deal.

He is quoted by Bernama as saying: "The talks are centered on an agreeable price for organising the prestigious race for the next three years.

"We also have to take into consideration the current economic volatility. For now we have not made any decision yet. We have to ensure the negotiations proceed smoothly."

The futures of several races have been brought into question lately, with the German Grand Prix thought to be in danger of disappearing from the calendar.
