German Grand Prix dropped from this season's F1 calendar

World Motor Sport Council confirms that the German Grand Prix has been dropped from this season's Formula 1 calendar.

The World Motor Sport Council has confirmed that the German Grand Prix has been dropped from this season's Formula 1 calendar.

The season has been reduced to 19 races after a deal could not be agreed to have Hockenheim host the event again this year.

Hockenheim were expected to take on the Grand Prix this season after a deal fell through with Nurburgring, but it has been decided that there will be no race at all in Germany.

A statement from WMSC said: "The German Grand Prix has been withdrawn as the commercial rights holder and promoter did not reach agreement."

Germany have been hosting races since 1926 and the only other time that they did not appear on the calendar was back in 1955.

Reigning champion Lewis Hamilton secured victory in the season opener in Melbourne last weekend.
