Ferrari racer Fernando Alonso has expressed his frustration at the error that led to his retirement during the Malaysian Grand Prix on Sunday.
The Spaniard clashed with Sebastian Vettel on the second corner in Sepang resulting in a damaged front wing which he did not pit to endure repairs.
Alonso, whose race came to an end shortly after when the wing collapsed before jamming under his front wheels, has put the incident down to bad luck.
"That's extremely bad luck in that incident," Alonso said.
"A lot of circumstances went in the wrong way, today we had a good car, and I don't think we were too far from the Red Bull pace, especially in the race.
"Looking now after the incident for sure it is the wrong decision [to stay on the track] if this unlucky combination had not happened, and in lap three we stop, we change the tyre and the nose and we win the race here, the team are heroes."
The race was Alonso's 200th Grand Prix.
