Kamui Kobayashi could be set for a return to Formula 1 next season with Caterham, according to reports.

The Japanese driver, who raced for Sauber between 2009 and 2012, is believed to be in contention for one of the seats at the Leafield-based outfit and Finnish publication Turun Sanomat claims that Kobayashi was spotted at the team's factory.

Furthermore, it is reported that the 27-year-old may beat Giedo van der Garde and Frenchman Charles Pic to one of the drives, with Marcus Ericsson tipped to take the other seat with Caterham.

Kobayashi's first drive in Formula 1 came with Toyota in 2009.
