Preview: Bayer Leverkusen vs. Zenit St Petersburg

Sports Mole casts its eye over Wednesday's Champions League Group C clash between Bayer Leverkusen and Zenit St Petersburg.

Zenit St Petersburg will be hoping to hold on to their position at the top of Group C when they travel to Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday evening.

The Russian side followed up their victory over Benfica on matchday one with a goalless draw against Monaco last time out.

Zenit head coach Andre Villas-Boas could welcome back midfielders Anatoliy Tymoshchuk and Axel Witsel following injuries.

Leverkusen are a point behind Zenit and Monaco in third place following their victory over Benfica two weeks ago.

Goals from Stefan Kiessling, Son Heung-Min and Hakan Calhanoglu gave the Bundesliga side a 3-1 success, which keeps them well in contention for a place in the knockout stages.

Leverkusen manager Roger Schmidt will be without Gonzalo Castro due to a knee injury, while Sebastian Boenisch and Simon Rolfes are sidelined with heel and ankle injuries respectively.

However, Lars Bender could return to the side after the midfielder was left out for Saturday's 3-3 draw against Stuttgart.
