Zenit St Petersburg manager Luciano Spalletti says that his team were punished for making "naive mistakes" during their defeat against Borussia Dortmund.

Zenit St Petersburg manager Luciano Spalletti has said that his team made "too many naive mistakes" during their 4-2 defeat in the Champions League against Borussia Dortmund.

The Russian side conceded two goals in the first five minutes of the match as they went on to lose the first leg of their last-16 tie, and they will now face an uphill task to make it through to the quarter-finals.

"We went out with a desire to play football. However, the two quick goals we conceded made a big imprint on the game and, you could say, decided the match," UEFA.com quotes him as saying.

"We made too many naive mistakes and were punished. You can't afford these kind of lapses at this level against opponents of Dortmund's calibre. If you make such ridiculous mistakes you will pay a very high price."

The second leg will take place on March 19 at Signal Iduna Park.
