Report: UEFA president Michel Platini rules out World Cup boycott

UEFA members will not boycott the 2018 FIFA World Cup in protest against Sepp Blatter, according to reports.

UEFA president Michel Platini has said that he is firmly against European nations boycotting the 2018 World Cup in protest against FIFA.

President Sepp Blatter won a fifth election to serve as FIFA president just two days after seven officials were arrested by the FBI on corruption charges.

Reports suggested that UEFA members are considering boycotting the next World Cup, and running their own independent tournament which could include South American giants Brazil and Argentina.

However, The Telegraph reports that Platini, who is also a FIFA vice-president, would not support any idea to skip the tournament, which will take place in Russia.

UEFA's executive committee are expected to hold a meeting this week to discuss their course of action.
