FIFA: 'No grounds to open disciplinary proceedings'

FIFA announce that they will not open disciplinary proceedings following complaints from two whistleblowers regarding the 2018 and 2022 World Cup bids.

FIFA has ruled that there are no grounds to open disciplinary proceedings following complaints from two whistleblowers over bids for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.

World football's governing body has been under immense scrutiny in recent months over the validity of Russia and Qatar's successful bids.

Two female whistleblowers recently claimed that their anonymity was compromised after being identified in judge Hans-Joachim Eckert's summary of the bid report, but FIFA insists that he has not breached confidentiality.

"The chairman reviewed all provided material and stressed that since the participants in the investigation had gone public with their own media activities long before the publication of the statement of the chairman of the adjudicatory chamber Judge Eckert, the breach of confidentiality claim had no substance," read an official statement.

"What is more, no names were mentioned in the statement and any information provided was of a general nature. Thus, there was no divulgence of any information of a confidential nature."

FIFA officials are currently in Morocco for the Club World Cup.
