Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly looking to sign two new players during the January transfer window, despite being due to post substantial losses in their next accounts.

Wolverhampton Wanderers reportedly intend to support Gary O'Neil in the January transfer window, despite being ready to post substantial losses.

Throughout the summer, Wolves' issues with financial fair play were a hot topic for debate and subsequently contributed to Julen Lopetegui departing Molineux by mutual consent.

The unexpected sale of Matheus Nunes to Manchester City for in excess of £50m ensured that Wolves were able to do business towards the back end of August and early September.

That also means that Wolves are in a much stronger position than they were earlier in the summer, despite the sales of the likes of Nathan Collins and Ruben Neves.

Nevertheless, according to The Telegraph, Wolves will publishes losses in the region of £65m shortly after the start of 2024 to confirm their weakened FFP position.

With that added to the £45m loss from the previous accounts, Wolves must post at least a profit of £5m throughout this season to comply with the regulations.

Despite that scenario, Wolves still expect to do business in January, potentially helped by trying to find new homes for the likes of Jonny and Fabio Silva.

Jonny was recently banished from the first-team squad due to an incident at the training ground, while Silva has remained as an unused substitute for the last six Premier League fixtures and has widespread interest in his signature.

Furthermore, it is claimed that Sasa Kalajdzic could be made available having made just one start and 10 substitute outings in the Premier League, albeit with his two goals securing important wins at Everton and Bournemouth.

Should Wolves be able to facilitate at least a couple of exits, a new winger and striker will allegedly be signed by the West Midlands outfit.

Sporting director Matt Hobbs is said to be focused on acquiring younger talent, similar to how Wolves signed Paraguayan teenager Enso Gonzalez in August.

That said, supporters will expect at least one player who can immediately challenge for a regular spot in the starting lineup, and Viktoria Plzen forward Rafiu Durosinmi allegedly remains on their radar.

Although Pedro Neto has been a notable absence with a hamstring injury, Wolves have generally been fortunate with injuries, with a total of eight players having started at least 14 of their 17 Premier League games during 2023-24.
