Wolves transfer news: Forward 'agrees terms' over summer exit

Wolverhampton Wanderers allegedly suffer a major blow in their efforts to retain the services of one of their key players during the summer transfer window.

Wolverhampton Wanderers reportedly face the real prospect of losing another key player before the start of the new season.

Supporters of the West Midlands outfit have been left delighted with the summer acquisitions of Pedro Lima, Rodrigo Gomes and Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Furthermore, there is a general acceptance that generating £40m from the sale of Max Kilman to West Ham United is outstanding business given that the club captain cost just £40,000.

However, there is a lingering concern that one of the club's key attackers will be allowing to depart Molineux, with Pedro Neto known to be available if an offer proves too good to turn down.

That at least was the case before Hwang Hee-chan began to attract interest from Marseille who are in the market for at least one new attacker.

Iliman Ndiaye has already been allowed to sign for Everton, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is on the brink of making the switch to Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadisiyah.

Marseille make Hwang breakthrough

Last week, it was claimed that Marseille had failed with a £21m bid for Hwang, with Wolves having no interest in entertaining offers for the South Korea international.

Nevertheless, according to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna, Marseille have agreed personal terms with the versatile forward.

The report alleges that there is 'an agreement in principle' for the 28-year-old to make the switch to the Stade Velodrome if the two clubs can find a compromise over a fee.

Wolves are said to be demanding a fee in the region of £30m for a player who has played a pivotal role in driving interest in the Asian market.

Can Wolves afford to stand their ground?

Unlike 12 months ago, Wolves are no longer under any pressure to sell any more players, and have the financial leeway to add to their squad.

With Hwang, Neto, Gomes, Larsen, Pablo Sarabia and Matheus Cunha all competing for roles in Gary O'Neil's attack, Wolves are not short of options in the final third.

On the flip side, it is questionable whether Wolves will be able to turn down the chance to perhaps double their money on a player who is closing in on his thirties.

Although Marseille do not have European football on their calendar for 2024-25, Hwang is seemingly open to taking on a new challenge in a different league.
