Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Stale Solbakken warns defender Christophe Berra that his place in the club's starting XI will be in doubt unless he signs a new contract at Molineux.

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Stale Solbakken has warned defender Christophe Berra that his place in the club's starting XI will be in doubt unless he signs a new contract at Molineux.

The Scotland international's current deal expires at the end of the season, meaning that he will be free to hold talks with non-English clubs from Tuesday onwards.

"I've told him that I need feedback in the first half of January to scare him a little bit," Solbakken told the Express & Star. "Because then he thinks if he says 'no' he won't play in the team. That's my trump card.

"He hasn't given me any vibes [that he will sign], but I think he likes what we're doing, and that's always a good start. But, as I tell him, there are a lot of good central defenders out there."

Berra has made 25 appearances for Wolves this season.
