Former Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Mel Eves believes that Dean Saunders was "out of his depth" at Molineux.

Former Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Mel Eves believes that taking over at Molineux was too much of an ask for Dean Saunders.

The 48-year-old was sacked by the club today following their fall into League One on the final day of the Championship season last Saturday.

"I like him as a person but he's been totally out of his depth," Eves told the Express & Star. "They need somebody at that club who knows about football. I feel really sorry for the owner Steve Morgan. He's a genuine guy who really wants to get it right.

"He's gone with various things and I'm not sure where he's getting his advice from. The job proved to be too big for Dean, I don't think he was ready for it. It was a big ask and he walked into something that even he didn't realise how big it was."

The West Midlands outfit are now searching for their fifth manager since dismissing Mick McCarthy last February.
