Kenny Jackett praises Benik Afobe over Norwich City bids

Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Kenny Jackett commends Benik Afobe's professionalism for the way that he handled persistent talk of a move to Norwich City this summer.

Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Kenny Jackett has said that Benik Afobe has been "very professional" in the way that he handled speculation of a move to Norwich City throughout the summer.

The Canaries had three bids for Afobe turned down before the transfer window closed including a final offer of £10m, but Wolves consistently maintained that the former Arsenal man would not be sold.

After Afobe had kept quiet while the rumours continued, Jackett admitted that he has sympathy for the forward over the public questions about his future and praised the way he responded.

"He has been very professional," Jackett told reporters. "I have got a lot of sympathy for him, it is a very difficult situation.

"We have been honest with him and we have told him every time there has been a bid, but it has been a difficult time for him. We understand that, because you are always thinking what is the best thing for my future, my family.

"He has been very professional about it. We want to make sure that he is happy here and that the side are playing to his strengths."

Afobe scored 13 times in 21 Championship games after moving to Molineux from Arsenal in January, and has started this season with two goals in five games.
