Kevin De Bruyne equaliser rescues point for Wolfsburg

Kevin De Bruyne scored a late equaliser to cancel out Leroy Sane's opener, rescuing a point for Wolfsburg in their clash with Schalke 04 at the Volkswagen Area.

After a goalless first half, the second 45 minutes offered the same energetic, hectic action that was on display just before the interval.

The hosts were constantly knocking on the door for the opener, bombarding the Schalke goal with a heap of chances.

However, it was the visitors who broke the deadlock, as 19-year-old Sane picked up the ball outside of his own box and his mazy run opened up an opportunity for the midfielder to score, which he did successfully.

Wolfsburg were furious with the decision to allow the goal to stand, as a few deflections in the run appeared to have hit Sane on the hand.

The home side kept up their pressure and the question was not if Wolfsburg were going to score, but when.

As a result of their hard work, De Bruyne's shot outside of the box sailed past Ralf Fahrmann in the Schalke net, putting the Belgian midfielder on 10 goals for the season.

Both sides pushed for a winner but some resolute defending from each team kept the score at 1-1.

The point keeps Wolfsburg in second and puts them 12 points behind league leaders Bayern Munich.

Schalke move into fifth on 42 points, leapfrogging Augsburg by a better goal difference.
