Preview: Woking vs. Halifax Town - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's National League clash between Woking and Halifax Town, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Fourth-placed Woking will be looking to move into third spot in the National League table when they play host to Halifax Town on Tuesday.

The visitors, who are set to finish in a mid-table position, will be aiming to extend their unbeaten run to eight competitive games.

Match preview

Woking bounced back from a disappointing 3-0 defeat against Notts County to claim a narrow 2-1 home victory over Gateshead at the weekend.

Rhys Browne opened the scoring in the third minute and less than 10 minutes later, he doubled Woking's advantage from the penalty.

Gateshead pulled a goal back in the second half, but the Cards held firm to end their three-game winless home run.

Woking are already guaranteed to finish in the top seven, but they still have the chance to advance straight into the playoff semi-finals if they can finish in third position, which is currently occupied by Chesterfield.

Darren Sarll's side will move above Chesterfield if they can claim all three points on Tuesday, and they will be confident of doing just that after thrashing Halifax 4-0 when the two sides met in October.

Halifax, meanwhile, are currently sitting in 13th place, and they will be looking to move into the top half of the table in their final two games.

They will also be aiming to extend their seven-game unbeaten run, as they build up to next month's FA Trophy final against Gateshead at Wembley.

Halifax will be looking to return to winning ways on Tuesday after playing out consecutive draws with Bromley and Dagenham & Redbridge.

Despite having to settle for a point from Saturday's goalless draw against the Daggers, Chris Millington would have been pleased with his side's defensive display as they claimed their fifth clean sheet in six games.

The Shaymen have tended to struggle on their travels in the National League this season, having won just four of their 22 away league games, but they will be hoping that their final away match of the season can produce a victory.

Team News

Woking will be hoping that James Daly is passed fit for Tuesday's contest after the forward sustained a head injury in the win over Gateshead.

Charlie O'Connell was introduced as a half-time substitute on Saturday, and the 20-year-old is in contention to start against Halifax.

As for the visitors, Max Wright returned from a spell on the sidelines to play the final five minutes of Saturday's goalless draw, and the 25-year-old is expected to be utilised off the bench once again, as Halifax manage his comeback.

After dropping out of the lineup against Dagenham & Redbridge, Harvey Gilmour and Millenic Alli could both return to the starting XI for Tuesday's encounter.

Woking possible starting lineup:
Jaaskelainen; Moss, Cuthbert, Lopata, Casey; O'Connell, Ince; Browne, Nwabuokei, Amond; Daly

Halifax Town possible starting lineup:
Johnson; Golden, Stott, Arthur, Senior; Capello, Hunter, Gilmour, Alli; Dieseruvwe, Harker

We say: Woking 2-0 Halifax Town

Woking eased to a 4-0 victory in the reverse fixture, and with the hosts aiming to secure top spot, we think that they will utilise home advantage to beat a Halifax side that has struggled to find their best form away from home.
