Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan insists that the team will not be relegated this season.

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has insisted that the club will not be relegated this season.

The Latics are currently two points above the drop zone following Wednesday's surprise 1-0 victory over leaders Manchester United at the DW Stadium.

The memorable win was Wigan's first over United in their history.

"We will not get relegated and we will not be going back in the bottom three," Whelan told reporters. "The spirit in our camp is unbelievably high. Prior to this, we had beaten everyone in the Premier League except Manchester United. What a night to do it on."

Wigan continue their battle against the drop on Monday when they travel to Arsenal.
