Malky Mackay rues offside decision in Bournemouth loss

Wigan Athletic boss Malky Mackay is frustrated with the failure of the officials to disallow Callum Wilson's first goal in his side's defeat to Bournemouth.

Wigan Athletic boss Malky Mackay has revealed his disappointment with the decision to allow Callum Wilson's first goal to stand in his side's 3-1 defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday.

The Cherries took the lead in the first half when Wilson latched onto Yann Kermorgant's flick on and slotted the ball past Ali Al-Habsi.

However, replays showed that the forward was yards offside, leaving Mackay to rue the decision, despite Eddie Howe's men finding the net twice more in the second half.

Mackay told Sky Sports News: "We looked at it immediately, Kermorgant flicks it on and he's two yards offside. We're obviously disappointed because it took the wind out of our sails.

"Up until that point it was a pretty even game, we'd hit the bar and had a few other chances. We then give them a really soft goal right on half-time, giving the ball away on the edge of our own area.

"They came up today against the best team in the division, a team I think will be promoted and, along with last week's draw at Ipswich, it gives me encouragement for the last 17 games."

Wigan remain 23rd in the Championship table, seven points adrift of safety.
