New Wigan boss Owen Coyle says that Shaun Maloney is a big part of his plans, despite reports of a possible exit.

New Wigan Athletic manager Owen Coyle has suggested that he will try to keep Shaun Maloney at the club next season.

The 30-year-old has been linked with a possible exit from the DW Stadium following the club's fall into the Championship and Roberto Martinez's departure to Everton.

"Shaun is my type of player and I've thought that since the first time I clapped eyes on him at Celtic," Coyle told the Daily Record.

"I love him to bits because he's a match winner and that's what makes him an attractive proposition to others at the same time."

Maloney has been a Wigan player since 2011.
