Guilherme Finkler goal sees Melbourne Victory to win over Western Sydney Wanderers

Guilherme Finkler's 80th-minute strike secures a 2-1 win for Melbourne Victory over the Western Sydney Wanderers at the Parramatta Stadium.

A late goal from Guilherme Finkler has given Melbourne Victory a 2-1 win over the Western Sydney Wanderers in their A-League clash at the Parramatta Stadium.

Nikita Rukavytsya forced Melbourne goalkeeper Nathan Coe into a save early on, with his powerful shot being turned behind for a corner.

The visitors opened the scoring in the 26th minute through Carl Valieri, who netted his first A-League goal with a volley from Guilherme Finkler's corner.

The hosts improved in the second half and carved out an opening not long after the restart, but Antony Golec fired his effort over the bar from outside the penalty area.

The Wanderers got on level terms in the 55th minute thanks to Nick Kalmar, who netted his first goal for the club with a first-time effort that beat Coe.

Melbourne regained the lead 11 minutes from time when Besart Berisha played in Finkler, who made no mistake with his finish beyond Wanderers goalkeeper Ante Covic.

The Wanderers pushed for an equaliser in the final minutes, but Melbourne held on for the victory which moves them up to third in the table.
