New West Ham United midfielder Jack Wilshere reveals that the prospect of reviving his England career was a big factor behind his decision to stay in the Premier League.

New West Ham United midfielder Jack Wilshere has admitted that the prospect of reviving his England career was a big factor behind his decision to stay in the Premier League.

The 26-year-old missed out on a place in Gareth Southgate's 23-man England squad for the World Cup in Russia, a decision which left him "incredibly disappointed".

Wilshere's omission came during an uncertain period at club level, which culminated in his decision to leave Arsenal after 17 years at the club and join West Ham on a free transfer.

"That's a big reason why I stayed in the Premier League," Wilshere, who penned a three-year deal at the London Stadium, told Sky Sports News.

"I've always said before, I love playing for my country, I'm proud to do it and it's been a while since I've done it. While I'm playing and I'm still fit and healthy, I want to be playing for England."

Wilshere made 198 senior appearances for Arsenal, scoring 14 goals and registering 30 assists since his promotion from the academy in 2008.
