Andy Carroll edges closer to West Ham United comeback

West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce says that Andy Carroll is ready to "step up" his training following a heel injury.

West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce has claimed that striker Andy Carroll will "step up" his training in order to be fit for the first team.

The 24-year-old was absent for the Hammers' opening Premier League 2-0 win over Cardiff City due to a heel injury.

"Andy Carroll has had an injection to finally finish off the last bit of pain he's suffering in his heel, to shift inflammation," talkSPORT quotes Allardyce as saying. "It's completely repaired and we expect him to step up his training now and then we'll take it day by day."

Carroll completed a permanent move to West Ham from Liverpool earlier this summer for a reported £15m fee.
